R. Schumann. Violin Concerto in D minor
F. Schubert. Symphony No. 9 in C major (“The Great”)

Ukrainian violinist Dmytro Udovychenko began his musical journey at the age of five and today is regarded as one of the most outstanding performers of the younger generation. He studied at the Kharkiv specialized music school, later continued his studies at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen, and since 2022 has been studying at the prestigious Kronberg Academy in Germany. D. Udovychenko has received exceptional recognition on the international stage: in 2024 he won the prestigious Queen Elisabeth International Competition in Belgium, in 2023 – the Montreal International Violin Competition, in 2022 – the Singapore International Violin Competition, and in the same year became a laureate of the Jean Sibelius Violin Competition. His earlier achievements include second prize and the Audience Award at the Joseph Joachim Competition in Hanover in 2018, as well as second prize at the Jascha Heifetz Competition in Vilnius in 2017. At the LVSO Concert Hall, D. Udovychenko will perform Robert Schumann’s (1810–1856) Violin Concerto in D minor – one of the composer’s last major works, today regarded as a late Romantic gem full of emotional depth and intense inner drama.

In the second part of the concert, the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra will perform Franz Schubert’s (1797–1828) Symphony No. 9, also known as “The Great”. This is one of the most significant works by the renowned Austrian Romantic composer, whose premiere took place more than a decade after his death. The piece bears witness to the profound influence of Ludwig van Beethoven: although L. van Beethoven lived in F. Schubert’s native Vienna throughout the younger composer’s life, F. Schubert never dared to meet the greatest authority he so deeply admired.

This evening, the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra will be conducted by Golo Berg, a maestro from Germany and Music Director of the Münster Theatre (Germany).
