G. Puccini. Opera “Tosca” (concert performance)
The Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra, led by its artistic director and chief conductor Gintaras Rinkevičius, begins its 37th concert season with a grand celebration – the anniversary of opera soloist Edgaras Montvidas. Tenor E. Montvidas is one of the most prominent names in Lithuanian opera, who has earned the unfading love and respect of listeners with his talent and impressive work. “Now, when everything is so temporary and fragile, when new stars shine and fall right away, that stability and constant climbing up the mountain are a value,” – this is how E. Montvidas speaks about his career path.
The soloist makes Lithuania’s name famous all over the world – during his career he has created more than 40 roles, which he has performed at the English National, London’s Covent Garden, the Dutch National Opera, theatres in Geneva, Frankfurt, Lyon, Paris, Brussels, Strasbourg, Cincinnati, Santa Fe (USA) and other famous opera houses. The singer actively performs with the most famous symphony orchestras in Europe, the USA and Japan in such prestigious concert halls as the Musikverein in Vienna, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, Berlin Philharmonic and others.
In 2020, E. Montvidas became the artistic director of the Pažaislis Music Festival. The soloist was awarded the medal of the Order “For Merits to Lithuania”, the honorary badge of the Ministry of Culture “Carry Your Light and Believe”, and in 2023 he was awarded the Lithuanian National Prize for Culture and Arts.
This evening, on the occasion of E. Montvidas's anniversary, the Italian opera masterpiece, Giacomo Puccini's (1858–1924) opera “Tosca”, will be performed on the stage of the LVSO Concert Hall. Together with E. Montvidas, an entire constellation of Lithuanian opera stars shall appear: Aušrinė Stundytė, Kostas Smoriginas, Joris Rubinovas, Arūnas Malikėnas, Mindaugas Jankauskas, Aleksandras Kunskis, the boys' and youth choir “Ąžuoliukas” (conductor Vytautas Miškinis), the Kaunas State Choir (director Robertas Šervenikas) and the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra, conducted by artistic director and chief conductor G. Rinkevičius.
