The Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra invites professional cellists to apply for the position of Associated Principal Cello starting from the beginning of the 2026 season (5th of August, 2025).
Brutto salary: 3000 Eur.
REQUIREMENTS FOR APPLICANTS:
- Higher education in music (specialization in cello), preferably a Master’s degree
- At least 1 year of experience in a professional symphony orchestra
- Experience performing solo and chamber music
- Strong sight-reading (prima vista) skills
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills
SELECTION PROCEDURE:
The selection process will take place in two stages:
- First stage – A video recording of a freely chosen piece (up to 10 minutes)
- Second stage – Live audition:
- Solo pieces
- Orchestral excerpts
(The first stage applies to candidates residing outside of Lithuania.)
AUDITION REPERTOIRE:
Solo pieces:
- J. S. Bach – Prelude from one of the solo cello suites (Suite No. II, III, or IV, at the candidate’s choice)
- One movement from a Classical or Romantic cello concerto (e.g., J. Haydn, E. Lalo, A. Dvořák, R. Schumann)
Orchestral excerpts (mandatory for all candidates):
- L. van Beethoven – Symphony No. 5, Movement II
- L. van Beethoven – Symphony No. 9, Movement IV
- J. Brahms – Symphony No. 2, Movement II
- G. Mahler – Symphony No. 2, Movement I
- R. Strauss – Der Rosenkavalier
- R. Strauss – Salome, Scene III, Cello A
- G. Verdi – Requiem, Movement III “Offertorio”
- G. Verdi – Rigoletto, Act II, No. 9
