For the second year in a row, the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra, led by artistic director and chief conductor Gintaras Rinkevičius, invites you to welcome the summer with solo concerts by the most famous Lithuanian artists. After last year's hugely successful Edgaras Montvidas’ recital, this year the stage of the LSSO concert hall is given over to one of the most famous Lithuanian pianists, Lukas Geniušas.
Pianist Lukas Geniušas has established himself as one of the most interesting and original artists of his generation. Constantly praised for his talent and maturity (“The Guardian”), L. Geniušas is regularly invited to perform recitals in the world's most famous concert halls, such as London's Wigmore Hall, Amsterdam's Concertgebouw, Paris' Salle Gaveau, Louvre Auditorium, New York's Frick Collection, Washington's Phillips Collection, Genoa Teatro Carlo Felice, Milan's Sala Verdi and others.
Known for his innate curiosity and extensive musical interests, Lukas Geniušas explores a wide range of repertoire, from the baroque to works by contemporary composers. His repertoire spans from Beethoven Piano Concerti through to Hindemith’s “Ludus Tonalis” and John Adams. He is an avid chamber musician and an extremely inquisitive performer and enjoys working on new works by modern composers, as well as resurrecting rarely performed repertoire.
L. Geniušas' discography, which has received best critical reviews, includes the works of L. van Beethoven, J. Brahms, S. Rachmaninov, F. Chopin, as well as chamber music recordings. His first recording of S. Prokofiev's piano sonatas, released by the “Mirare” company, was awarded the Choc de Classica and Diapason magazine's “Recital of the Year” awards in 2019. In 2022, together with opera soloist Asmik Grigorian, the pianist won the prestigious Gramophone Classical Music Award for their joint work – the album of Sergei Rachmaninov's romances “Dissonance”.
Born in 1990 in Moscow, into a family of famous musicians, L. Geniušas began his musical career at the age of five at the F. Chopin Music College in Moscow, from which he graduated with the highest grades in 2008. After that, he continued his studies at the Moscow Conservatory, in the class of his grandmother, the famous piano professor Vera Gornostaeva. L. Geniušas became a laureate of several prestigious international competitions, including the International P. Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow in 2015 (II place) and the International F. Chopin Competition in 2010 (II place). Since 2015, Lukas Geniušas has been a participant in the philanthropic project “Looking at the Stars” in Toronto.
