CONCERT PROGRAMME
W. A. Mozart. “Requiem” in D minor, K. 626
On the Day of Mourning and Hope, the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra will perform one of the world's most beautiful works – Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's (1756-1791) “Requiem” for four soloists, choir and symphony orchestra. The work, which Mozart began to write in the last years of his life, remains unfinished, and is surrounded by mystery and legends. One of them is that Mozart had a bad feeling when writing the commissioned work – the composer felt as if he was writing it... for his own funeral. Already seriously ill and sensing his imminent death, the composer asked his students to complete the work; using Mozart's sketches, his style and repetitions, they finished the score of the “Requiem” after the great composer had died. The work became a kind of meditation on human destiny, a journey through the life and feelings of the whole humanity.
This evening W. A. Mozart's “Requiem” will be performed by opera soloists Austėja Zinkevičiūtė, soprano, Ieva Prudnikovaitė, mezzo-soprano, Karolis Kašiuba, tenor and Raimundas Juzuitis, bass. The Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra will be conducted by Maestro Gintaras Rinkevičius, Artistic Director and Chief Conductor.
